Though hearing-impaired, Zhang Yongsheng and his wife Zhan Jingwen managed to make their daughter, who also suffers from the same disability, hear at the age of two. By running a snack stall at a night market and thanks to support from their relatives and friends, the couple managed to afford a cochlear implant for her daughter's left ear and a hearing aid for the daughter's right ear. "It is too expensive to have the similar treatment for me and my wife, and we have already been accustomed to the silent world anyway. What we want is to make sure our daughter can hear."
